Counseling Session Interaction

Is therapy right for you?

Many people consider therapy when they are struggling with something difficult or when they feel stuck in their lives.

You may be considering therapy if you are experiencing:

  • depression, anxiety or persistent worry

  • mental health challenges related to food and body image

  • addiction or challenges in recovery

  • burnout or emotional exhaustion

  • low confidence or self worth

  • feeling stuck in repeating patterns

  • life transitions or identity challenges

Psychotherapy provides a supportive space where these experiences can be explored openly and without judgement.

My approach to psychotherapy

My name is Alan Byrne. I am a fully qualified Mental Health Counsellor and Integrative Psychotherapist, having completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2025 with the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am also a pre accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My approach integrates several evidence based therapeutic models.

Person Centred Therapy

Person Centred Therapy focuses on creating a supportive therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and understood.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT helps people understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact and provides practical tools to respond differently to difficult situations.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on developing psychological flexibility and helping people move toward a meaningful life even in the presence of difficult thoughts or emotions.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns can influence present thoughts, emotions, and relationships, helping individuals gain deeper insight into the underlying causes of their current difficulties.

Online meeting

Online therapy across Ireland

Online therapy sessions are also available for clients across Ireland.

Many people find online therapy flexible and accessible, allowing them to attend sessions from home while still experiencing a meaningful therapeutic connection.

What happens in the first session?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and many people are unsure what to expect from the first session.

The first session is simply an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and to talk about what has brought you to therapy.

There is no pressure to share everything straight away. We move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

During the first session we may explore:

  • what has been going on in your life recently

  • what you would like support with

  • what you hope to gain from therapy

  • how the therapy process works

You are also welcome to ask questions about the process and whether therapy feels like the right fit for you.
